Investigators appeal for information on Ballina, Co Mayo death

CO MAYO, Ireland - One of two men arrested following Wednesday night's fatal assault has been released without charge, and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The man, aged in his 20s, was taken into custody along with a man in his late 20s, after the death of a man in his 50s at a residential area in Ballina, County Mayo on Wednesday.

Police were called to a home in Ballina just before midnight on Wednesday night where they found the victim with serious injuries. He died at the scene.

A forensic examination of the scene has taken place and a post mortem of the victim has been scheduled to occur.

The second man arrested remains in custody. He appeared before Castlebar District Court on Friday afternoon.

Investigations remain ongoing. Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone with camera footage, including dashcam recordings from road users in the Tone Street, Ballina area and nearby locations around the time of the incident (shortly before midnight Wednesday night).
